Some Highlights of this Tour:

South Australia is known for amazing wines, great food, cycling and festivals! It is the fourth largest state in Australia, and while much of the state is quite arid, the southern coast, where we'll spend our time, is green and fertile with a Mediterranean-like climate. Adelaide is perhaps Australia's best known region when it comes to wine production, fantastic food and now cycling, with the Tour Down Under showcasing the region's amazing scenery during its world wide coverage of the race each year. Our cycling tour of South Australia captures all that this region has to offer. Staying in beautiful accommodation venues in the city, the Barossa Valley, Hahndorf, McLaren Vale & Victor Harbor we hope that you'll join us for this special tandem vacation where we'll enjoy riding along scenic coastal roads, through idyllic vineyards, and climbing in the Adelaide Hills.

You might like to combine this tour with our Tasmania tour in February to spend more than a month in Oz!

March 3, Day 1 (Arrival) and March 4 & 5, Days 2 & 3: Adelaide
Our tour begins with three nights in Adelaide, whose Aboriginal name is Tarntanya (pronounced Tarn-tan-ya). Adelaide is South Australia's capital city and is known for good food, great wine and epic festivals. Upon arrival on March 3 we'll assemble bikes and enjoy a get together with drinks and introductions, before our welcome dinner. Then our next two days will be spent cycling and getting to know the city. After each day's ride there’s loads to see and do in town. You can check out the Central Market, climb to the top of the Oval, Australia’s famous sports venue, or maybe just hit the beach!
Lodging: Mantra Hindmarsh Adelaide City

March 6 & 7, Days 4 & 5: Barossa Valley
Leaving Adelaide, we’ll visit Australia’s most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley, where we’ll stay for our next two nights. Cycling and vineyards go hand-in-hand and our time here will be spent enjoying the magnificent scenery as we pedal through this region’s star-studded vineyards. The Barossa Valley is home to the most famous Aussie wineries that consistently produce exceptional vintages, such as Penfolds, Jacob’s Creek and Wolf Blass. With more than 170 wineries, our time will include memorable cellar door experiences as we cycle along the Barossa Trail and other lovely routes.
Lodging: Novotel Barossa Valley Resort

March 8-10, Days 6-8: Hahndorf
Saying farewell to the Barossa Valley we head to Hahndorf, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. Staying here allows us to enjoy this fairy-tale village, filled with unique shops, bakeries, pubs, restaurants and cafes found along the busy main street. This artisan town located in the Adelaide Hills is a perfect place for cyclists with fabulous riding in the surrounding region. The annual Tour Down Under bike race that attracts the world’s best road cycling teams includes rides in the Adelaide Hills. You can be assured that our 3 days in the Adelaide Hills will include cycling and road surfaces that are top-notch.
Lodging: The Studios

March 11 & 12, Days 9 & 10: McLaren Vale
McLaren Vale is our next venue for two nights. Famous for its pristine coastline and hills dotted with vineyards, this region of South Australia is known for the stunning beaches but be forewarned, some of them are clothing optional! While this region is also known for wines, breweries and distilleries dot the landscape. Bike trails here include the Shiraz and Coast to Vines Rail Trail for exploring on two wheels.
Lodging: Serafino Winery

March 13-15, Days 11-13: Kangaroo Island
There is simply no place like Kangaroo Island. Located eight miles and a 45-minute ferry ride off the coast of South Australia, this is a land where visitors have the special opportunity to experience all the natural splendors and iconic wildlife that are Australian. In 2023 the New York Times listed Kangaroo Island number seven in their annual 52 places to visit. Breathtaking ocean vistas, incredible scenery and wildlife abound. Kangaroo Island continues to recover from wildfire devastation in 2019-2020. This makes the island more unique than ever to visit because much of Australia’s native flora and fauna regenerates and even thrives after fire. We’ll have three nights here to ride and enjoy this exceptional place.
Lodging: Ozone Hotel Kingscote

March 16, Day 14: Victor Harbor
Our final destination is Victor Harbor located on the Fleurieu peninsula. Our last ride will take us from town-to-town, by coastal clifftops via farmland, roads and forests. Don’t miss a ride in the truly unique horse drawn tram across the causeway to visit Granite Island.
Lodging: Victor Harbor Hotel

March 17, Day 15: Adelaide
Transfer back to Adelaide. We’ll pack bikes today as we prepare for the journey home and enjoy our farewell dinner in the city where our adventure began.
Lodging: Mantra Hindmarsh Adelaide City
